THE COOR'AT ("pride") TROUPE - A PROJECT FOR DEVELOPING TALENTS IN THE THEATER ARTS

Target population:

45 adolescent boys and girls, members of the Ethiopian community, aged 14-18.

Objectives:

  • Coorat
    Developing young talents among adolescents at risk
  • Empowering, developing and intensifying self-confidence among the adolescents and viewing adolescent participation as a tool for attaining this objective
  • Preventing "hanging out" and reducing at-risk hours
  • Reinforcing and developing communication channels among the adolescents on the one hand, and society, parents, and school on the other hand
  • Fostering a sense of identity and pride and a sense of belonging among the adolescents
  • Improving and reinforcing educational achievement levels via personal and group tutoring to prevent hidden or overt dropout

The program's goals for the next year:

  • To engage at least 45 pupils in the theater arts
  • To put on a major performance in August
  • To have six shows per year
  • An appearance abroad by the close of 2011
  • Integrating volunteers in the program as an additional resource
  • Active involvement by the parents (arrival at the shows)
  • Finding a location – a studio for operating the program and equipping it properly
